Celebrity Hair: Katie Holmes

Since becoming Tom Cruise’s girlfriend in 2005, Katie Holmes has been thrust into the spotlight, and has subsequently taken to changing her hairstyle on a regular basis. With shiny, healthy-looking hair, she is one of the celebrities that modern women look to for inspiration, and to follow the always-stylish trends she sets. In her early days of fame on the TV show Dawson’s Creek, she kept her chocolate-brown locks long, cutting it to shoulder-length just once during the seven-season series. During that time she did an ad for Garnier and had her hair lightened and coloured an attractive red hue – great at the time, but it gave her hair a two-toned look growing out.
It did grow out (as hair will tend to do) and she wore it long and wavy for her wedding to Cruise. Shortly after the birth of her daughter, Suri, she had it cut to above her shoulders in a style similar that of her friend Victoria Beckham. The cut made headlines worldwide; some even said that Cruise asked her to do it. More likely, in my opinion, she simply became bored of her long hair and wanted to try something bold and different. Since then she’s had a fringe cut in – a very geometric look that suits her gorgeous face perfectly. It also happens to be very similar to the style that her young daughter is currently sporting, making for some very cute photos.
My prediction is that Katie will begin to grow her hair long again quite soon, but will play with various different styles as it grows out. The shorter hair, in my opinion, makes her look older than she really is, and with such a luxurious mane at her disposal she’ll probably want to have more of it in the near future. I doubt that she’ll use hair extensions as it’s not congruent with her classic style, but with so many celebrities resorting to extensions these days, it’s not out of the question.
