Paris Hilton sued... over her hair extensions!

When I wrote last month about the various pros and cons of using hair extensions, I must admit that I didn't include "possible lawsuits" as one of the cons. But then, not everybody's life is as unusual as Paris Hilton's! The heiress has been hit with a whopping US$35 million lawsuit, from a hair extensions company that claims she breached her publicity contract with them by wearing extensions from another company. Ouch...

Emma Watson takes a short cut

With the filming of the last Harry Potter instalment well and truly behind her, it looks as though Emma Watson has marked the beginning of the next chapter in her life with a very short (and very chic) new haircut! She confirmed her new look on her Facebook and Twitter accounts, telling fans that her hair "Feels incredible. I love it," and posting this beautiful portrait.

Stylings of the late fifties and early sixties have been making a quiet return to fashion's forefront, and not just in the way our A-listers are dressing but in their hairstyles, too! The dramatic, Bardot-inspired bouffant updo has lately been spotted on several catwalks, countless red carpets and, most recently, in Prada's Fall/Winter 2011 ad campaign featuring the gorgeous Miranda Kerr. For someone who grew up listening to nothing but gospel music, Katy Perry certainly knew how make her move in the world of pop! Known for her saucy lyrics, unique fashion choices and for being the girl who brought comedian Russell Brand's less-than-monogamous lifestyle to a screeching halt (the two are engaged to be married), Katy Perry's hair has also become something of a talking point - it's been long, short, blonde and... blue? (That may have been a wig.) With her next album due out in less than two months' time, we can expect to be seeing a lot more of Miss Perry, but for now, here's a gallery of photos devoted to her gorgeous hair.

Stars' short cuts of 2010

Celebrities have the means to change the look of their hair at a moment's notice, and just like us, many get the urge to go for the big chop. Unlike us, however, they have the option of wearing very real-looking hair extensions if they later decide that the short locks are not for them. If, like me, you are just a regular girl with a regular beauty budget, you'll want to make sure you do plenty of research before you decide to have your hair cut short, because once it's gone you can't just glue it back on! In the meantime, here's a look at the short cuts a handful of stars have taken this year, compared with the hairstyles they wore in 2009. Good, bad, or downright ugly? Let me know what you think!

Amanda Seyfried's rise to fame has been one success story after another. First a model, then a singer and small-time actress, the gorgeous blonde made her film debut in 2004's Mean Girls and has been hot property ever since. She's starred alongside Meryl Streep, kissed Megan Fox, and made her move from supporting actress to leading lady in just a few short years. The 24-year-old's enviable golden blonde hair is something of a trademark for her - she's yet to move to the dark side, and I, for one, am hoping she never does! She's the highest grossing actress of the decade, a successful model, a burgeoning fashion designer and one of Britain's most famous faces. When you consider all of this, it's hard to believe that the gorgeous Emma Watson is still in her teens! Her fashion style is classically feminine, and this extends to her hair as well. It's always of a natural colour, varying between hues of blonde and medium brown, and usually falls between her shoulders and the middle of her back, or is swept up in an elegant updo. With her long, chestnut waves and gorgeous face, it was no wonder Gossip Girl author Cecily von Ziegesar thought Leighton Meester was "the perfect choice" to play Blair Waldorf in the TV series! This 23-year-old New Yorker is multi-talented: she's making her mark on the music scene, has a burgeoning film career, is a spokeswoman for the prevention of domestic violence, and has been applauded for her bold fashion choices. She's also pretty brave when it comes to her hair, as these photos show. Long, dark, blonde, shoulder-length, with fringe and without, Leighton's done it all... but as to whether she goes for the major chop like Blair did in the book series is anyone's guess! Strange Celebrity Trend: Ugly Hair

While most of us try to keep our hair looking as fabulous as possible, an odd new trend is beginning to appear in Hollywood and on the music scene... that's right, I'm talking about ugly hair. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but most would agree that the hairstyles these celebs have been wearing - though very brave - are not the most attractive looks we've ever seen!

Celebrity Hair: Isabel Lucas

There's something about long, natural looking hair that turns an already beautiful girl into a goddess, and to me that's what Isabel Lucas is! When she first hit our screens as Tasha Andrews on Aussie soap Home and Away, her hair was hip length, pale blonde and absolutely inspiring. She's since returned to her natural light brown hue and had it cut shorter, but has retained the natural waves and low maintenance layered style. The down-to-Earth star of Grey's Anatomy also has gorgeous hair, and while she's best known as a blonde, she frequently switches to brunette for movie roles like 27 Dresses and the upcoming R-rated rom-com The Ugly Truth.
