Changing your style = changing your image

When it comes to changing your hairstyle, there are many things you need to consider before you make your hairdresser's appointment. If you're planning on cutting your hair very short after it's been long for some time, then read the Getting the Chop posts on this blog - they outline what you need to think about before you take that step.
But if you're not sure, then consider this: in changing your hairstyle, you are in fact changing your image, and the way other people perceive you. Sounds dramatic, but after you get a new haircut you will notice the changes in the way you are treated. People who have known you for some time will take notice, as it is a way of signalling that you're ready for newness in your life. Sometimes a haircut is all you need to give you the inspiration you need to make other changes in your daily routine. It's a way of clearing the cobwebs.
If you've got long hair and have decided that you need a fresh image, then consider a transitional style (like a long bob) before you cut it all off. It may be all you need to get the haircutting bug out of your system. If, after two weeks of having this new style, you're ready to go shorter, then by all means go. If not, get some layers cut in to create fullness and texture.
Short, cropped hair is only for the brave among us. It's dramatic and doesn't allow you to 'hide' behind your hair - your face is always on display, from every angle. You may also look less feminine, so should consider your wardrobe before getting your hair cut. People you know may be surprised when they first see you with short hair, and may treat you differently at first - it's a bizarre phenomenon, but it happens! Remember that in changing your hairstyle, you are also changing your image, so be prepared for some feedback from others.
