Frequency of shampooing

Many shampoos say that they are suitable for daily use, but if you're washing your hair every day, then you're doing it too often. Shampooing every day strips your hair of its natural oils, and these oils are designed to protect your hair from the harsh elements of the environment, including sunlight and air pollution. Take away these natural oils and you're exposing your hair to breakage and overall damage.
So if you can, try to limit your shampooing to once every other day, or go even longer if you can - some women can go up to a week without their hair looking too dirty. After a while you'll find that the less you wash your hair, the less you'll need to wash it: almost as though you're building up an immunity to oiliness.
If your hair starts looking lank, then simply put it up. Not only will this vary your look, it'll keep your hair protected from the wind and other damaging elements. And if it's really, really oily, sprinkle a small amount of talcum powder onto your scalp, as this will absorb the oil for several hours until you next shampoo. In addition, using your conditioner as though it were a shampoo - as in, massaging it into your scalp and rinsing - will keep your hair clean-looking for longer, without the need to actually wash it. Conditioners have cleansing properties too, and often, it's all you'll need to keep your hair bouncy and shiny.
So do your hair a favour and lay off the daily shampooing. You'll find that by keeping the natural oils in your hair, it'll look healthier and will be less damaged in the long run.
