Hair accessories get feisty!
February 17th 2010 00:29
If you love headbands but aren't a fan of their sugary sweet, goody-two-shoes image, then it may be time to shake up that idea by throwing a row of metal spikes into the mix! These vicious-looking headbands by US designer Jennifer Behr add some serious ferocity to what was once a very meek accessory indeed.
The look is a little bit punk while still being quite feminine; like with a lot of 21st century fashion it's all about visual irony. The two designs from Jennifer Behr pictured above really capture the essence of the look, and Givenchy's is also quite gorgeous: they released their own version of the spiked headband late last year, as worn by New York socialite Vanessa Traina in the photograph below.
While you could expect to pay more than $100 for the Jennifer Behr designs - and considerably more for the Givenchy one - there is another option, which is always my favourite.... make it yourself! I could tell you how but this website already has; check it out for step-by-step instructions on how to make your own unique spiked headband, and prepare to receive a barrage of comments on the feisty nature of your headwear. Have fun!
