Hair as art

December 14th 2011 13:35
These are quite possibly the most awe-inspiring hairstyles I've ever seen, and yes, I've seen many. Shown as part of the 2012 Korean Hair Collection earlier this month in Seoul, these hairstyles are as zany and creative as they come; each one is truly a work of art. Enjoy.

Just a quick post today to share with you this stunning photo of one woman's extra long and very healthy-looking hair.... may it be an inspiration to those of you who are in the process of growing your own hair to waist length and beyond.

Anyone who knows and loves fashion also knows that it's not just about the clothes that are being shown on the catwalks, but the overall presentation of the shows themselves - we're talking attitudes, ideas, and of course the more tangible elements like the models' hair and makeup. The 2011 Australian Fashion Week was less about theatrics and more about wearability, and naturally the models' hairstyles followed suit. Soft romantic styles, slicked-back simplicity and intricate braiding were all popular choices, with the occasional crazy style thrown in for good measure. Scroll down to check out a sample of the hairstyles that were shown on the runways of this year's Australian Fashion Week.

'The Russian Rapunzel'

November 4th 2010 03:12
Very long hair often has the effect of turning an average-looking woman into a beauty, simply because long hair in itself is so appealing to so many of us. But every now and then you'll come across a woman who was gorgeous to begin with, and whose extra-long hair turns her into something akin to a goddess. Ruslana Korshunova was one of these women.

Paris Fashion Week technically goes for longer than a week (this year, it was nine days) but hey, who's counting anyway? With more than ninety designers from around the world presenting their Spring 2011 collections, this year's showings were as varied, and occasionally shocking, as always... and the hairstyles didn't disappoint either! While some fashion houses (such as those of Isabel Marant and Elie Saab) stuck to natural, free-flowing hair, and others (like Chanel, Chloe and Lanvin) took a minimalistic approach with simple slick-backs, a handful of designers pushed the hairstyle envelope and came up with some truly unique creations. Here's a sample of my favourites. Enjoy!

Now, before you ask "Australia has a Fashion Week?" (YES, yes we do!) I'll just jump right in and say that the 2010 Fashion Week was one of the best I've seen, both in terms of creative designs and wearability. For me, Fashion Week is not just about the clothes - I also love seeing what the designers come up with when it comes to their models' hair and makeup. Naturally, some of the styles are completely left-of-centre (and quite unwearable, unless you're on your way to a costume party), but there are others that are truly gorgeous and can give you some real inspiration when it comes to your own hair. If you want to see some proper coverage of Australia's Fashion Week, click here, if not, scroll down and check out some of the hairstyles - I've picked out my favourites from a long and (in my humble opinion) very impressive lineup.

Hair Gallery: Extra long hairstyles

November 27th 2009 11:43
It takes several years to grow your hair past your hips, and because of this it is an extremely rare thing - these days, there aren't many people who are patient enough to wait that long. Because it is so rare, it is also extremely special. Regardless of the colour and texture, extra long hair is ethereal, magical, and above all, incredibly beautiful! If very long hair is what you're after, I hope this gallery is an inspiration for you to stay patient and keep on growing.

Naturally curly hair is truly a thing of beauty, and as such, it shouldn't be fought but embraced. Sure, there will be days when it feels like the bane of your existence, and straightening it on those days is always an option - but ultimately, learning to love your wild mane is the way to go. Keep in mind, also, that while you may covet the simplicity of straight hair, your straight-haired friends are probably envying the volume your hair possesses... we always want what we don't have! Here's a photo gallery of celebrities who have chosen to flaunt their fabulously curly hair.

Once upon a time, the ponytail was a casual affair - the go-to style for bad hair days, or when you were in a rush and needed a last-minute look. However, as these photos show, more and more celebrities are embracing the ponytail as a high-glamour style. Whether it is worn tight and close to the head, over one shoulder, or loose with lots of wispy bits, these celebs have nailed the classic pony.

Gone are the long sideswept bangs we've become accustomed to - the fringe has taken over Hollywood and the catwalk once again, this time blunt-cut and worn straight down over the eyebrows. Here are some photos of celebs sporting this new look.
