Paris Hilton sued... over her hair extensions!

When I wrote last month about the various pros and cons of using hair extensions, I must admit that I didn't include "possible lawsuits" as one of the cons. But then, not everybody's life is as unusual as Paris Hilton's! The heiress has been hit with a whopping US$35 million lawsuit, from a hair extensions company that claims she breached her publicity contract with them by wearing extensions from another company. Ouch...
The company suing her, Hairtech International Inc., is seeking damages that are ten times what they paid her to become their frontwoman in 2007. They also claim that Paris missed a launch party for one of their new product lines in 2007... because she was in jail.
It's not the first time Hilton has been sued for breaching her publicity contracts. Two years ago she was hit with a lawsuit for failing to provide "reasonable promotion and publicity" for the box-office flop Pledge This! and was ordered to pay the relatively small amount of US$75,000 in damages to the filmmakers. Considering she was reportedly paid US$1 million to star in the film, you could say that in that instance, she got off light.
But not this time. Hairtech is clearly playing hardball with the 29-year-old by demanding a sum that might actually mean something to her. Hilton is yet to comment on the situation, but her team of attorneys told People magazine that they don't intend for Hairtech to get a single penny of that US$35 million.
"There is no merit whatsoever to any of these claims," said Hilton's lawyers in a statement. "We will pursue all of our defenses vigorously and any potential counter claims."
As bad hair moments go, they really don't get much worse than this.
