It's official!

Crazy hair colour is back on the celebrity radar! Katy Perry, Lauren Conrad, Sienna Miller, Kate Bosworth and Glee's Dianna Agron have all been photographed in the last month sporting hair colours of the not-so-natural variety. This latest revival is all about choosing just one standout colour (multicoloured strands were hot a few years back, but in 2011 will appear dated), and allowing some of your natural base colour to show at the roots.
The best vibrant hair colour on the market right now is the Fudge Paintbox range, which has semi-permanent dyes available in just about every colour you can think of. While it claims to last up to 20 washes you'll probably find that you'll need to touch it up before then - this look is nothing if not high maintenance! - but bold rainbow colour is all about transience anyway. By the time you need to reapply there's a good chance you'll be in the mood for a completely different colour (think Kate Winslet's character Clementine in the brilliant 2004 movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).
If your hair is not already blonde, you'll need to pre-lighten it to get the most vibrant results, and get a friend to apply the bold colour for you - this is not the time for a literal DIY! For the most modern look, keep the two inches closest to your scalp untouched, or dip-dye the bottom half of your hair only like Kate Bosworth has done.
One last thing: vibrantly coloured hair has the ability to make your face look washed out, so you'll need to consider your makeup and overall complexion before you get the dye happening. Otherwise you're good to go! The hardest part will always be choosing which colour best suits your mood and personality, but of course that is entirely up to you. Bright, crazy colour may be a hairstyle trend, but it's one that is ultimately all about embracing your own individual tastes.
Candy colours FTW! (Clockwise from top left) Dianna Agron, Sienna Miller, Katy Perry and Kate Bosworth work the latest in hair colour trends.
